Tier I · Bony camcorder
An old camcorder with a flip screen and night vision. The image is low quality and gets heavily distorted when the ghost manifests nearby, but it’s enough to spot Ghost Orbs.
Tier II · Parasonic camcorder
A more modern camcorder with a better screen and better night vision. It resists interference better, so Ghost Orbs and the ghost look clearer than on the Tier I one.
Tier III · Bony cinema camera
A large shoulder-mounted cinema camera. It has the best image and the highest resistance to interference: it’s the most useful one for following the ghost during a ghost event or a hunt.
How to use it
- Pick it up (the screen flips open on its own), turn on night vision and point it at the ghost room with the lights and your Flashlight off.
- You can also place it on a flat surface or a Tripod: it streams its feed to the computer in the truck. The ghost sometimes knocks cameras over; on a Tripod they fall less.
- Hold the use button to record, or click “Rec” on the computer. A video of the ghost manifesting or of Ghost Orbs goes into the journal (Ghost Orbs pay up to $12 and 12 XP).
- When the ghost manifests during a ghost event or a hunt, it distorts the image on every nearby camera; the higher the tier, the less it’s affected.
When it counts as evidence
- If the ghost has Ghost Orbs, they appear from the start in the ghost room and float around inside it: tiny dots of light gliding across the screen, usually one at a time.
- They only show up with night vision: on the camera’s screen, on any video feed with night vision (like Tier I Head Gear) and, rarely, on the map’s CCTV cameras.
- They shift position within the room every so often. If the favorite room changes (on Professional, Nightmare and Insanity), the Ghost Orbs move with it.
What isn’t evidence
- The Mimic’s Ghost Orbs: it always shows them on top of its three evidence, even when the difficulty is set to 0 evidence. Ghost Orbs plus three other evidence means the Mimic.
- Snowflakes or raindrops outdoors: they fall and are dark, while Ghost Orbs are bright and float sideways or even upward.
- Not seeing Ghost Orbs through night vision goggles (Tier III Head Gear): they don’t show up there, so that doesn’t rule the evidence out.
Tips
- Search with the camera in your hand, not just with fixed cameras: Ghost Orbs move around the room, and it saves you trips to the truck.
- If you leave fixed cameras, put two in opposite corners facing each other, or use a Tier II or III Tripod to rotate it. If you see no Ghost Orbs for a good while, move it.
- Turn off the room lights and your Flashlight: with light, night vision washes out and Ghost Orbs disappear.
- A camera aimed at a hallway, Salt or the fuse box lets you watch from the truck, but on the lower tiers Ghost Writing or EMF 5 is hard to read: go in and check every now and then.
Trivia
- All three cameras are real models with the brand changed: a Sony DCR-TRV260, a Panasonic HC-VX1K and a Sony Venice cinema camera (“Bony” and “Parasonic” in the game).
