Ghost Writing Book

A book you leave open near the ghost so it writes or draws in it. It’s the tool for finding Ghost Writing evidence.

Tier I · Paper notepad
A plain notepad with a pencil. It’s the one the ghost notices least: 51% per attempt and only 3 m of range, so it can take a while. It has 3 possible drawings: violent scribbles, a plea for help and a promise.
Tier II · Parchment book
Parchment pages in a leather case tied with a rope, plus a pen. The ghost notices it more often: 67% per attempt and 4 m of range. It has the most different drawings, six.
Tier III · Grimoire
A heavy grimoire with metal accents and an ornate pen. It’s the one ghosts write in most: 76% per attempt, and with 5 m of range it’s easier to place near the ghost. Its 3 drawings are a 666, a ritual and a pentagram.

Aim at a surface and hold the Secondary Use button to preview where it will go; when you let go, the book is placed open. Put it near where you saw activity.
When the ghost writes, the book rises slightly, the pencil scribbles loudly and ends up thrown on the floor. It also leaves an EMF Level 2 reading (a 33% chance of EMF 5 if the ghost has that evidence).
So you don’t have to wait next to it, watch it from the truck with a Video Camera or a Sound Sensor.

If the ghost has Ghost Writing, it tries to write in each book every 45 to 90 s. Each book has its own timer, which starts when the contract loads.
Each attempt succeeds 51%, 67% or 76% of the time, depending on the tier.
The book must be open and the ghost within 3, 4 or 5 m, depending on the tier.
Any drawing counts the same: the type of writing tells you nothing else about the ghost.

The ghost throwing the book: if it throws it, it doesn’t have Ghost Writing (or it’s hiding it on reduced-evidence difficulties). After being thrown, the book closes.

It’s hard to see the pages on camera, but if the pencil is no longer on the book, it has written.
Bring both books and spread them around the room: each one has its own timer, so you get more attempts in the same amount of time.
Take a photo of the written book: it counts as a Ghost Writing photo in the journal.

One of the Tier II drawings, “Unintelligible,” is content creator Dodorododo’s username written several times in really bad cursive.
Another Tier II drawing, “Fleeing the Sun,” comes from one of the children’s drawings in the 2013 horror movie “Mama.”
