How it works

A simulation made by Phasmopedia with the game’s numbers. The sounds are recreated: they aren’t the game’s.

  • Tier I · Laser pen

A small laser pen that projects a narrow cone of dots: 7.5 m long and 30° wide. It’s the only one you can hold and turn on while walking, besides placing it. Held and turned on, it draws the ghost to you during a hunt.

  • Tier II · Adapted motion sensor

An infrared sensor adapted to project light that sticks to most surfaces. It fills a sphere with a 2.4 m radius around it. Placed on the floor, it covers a small or medium-sized room well.

  • Tier III · Motorized three-lens projector

A motorized projector that sweeps the room with a wide cone 7 m long and 54° across. It goes on a wall or an upright surface. It makes a constant whirring: interact with it once to freeze it in place and silence it (it covers less), again to turn it off and again to turn it back on.

How to use it

  • Place it on a wall or the floor of the ghost room, where it covers the ghost’s path, and turn off the light. You can also hold the Tier I one and point it.
  • Wait for the ghost to cross the dots: it shows up as a faint silhouette walking for a few seconds.
  • During a hunt, only a Tier I held and turned on draws the ghost to you. Tier II and III are safe to carry.

When it counts as evidence

  • Only ghosts with this evidence sometimes enter the D.O.T.S state instead of starting to roam. It lasts at most 6 s.
  • During that state, the silhouette only shows while the ghost is crossing the dot field. Dead players can’t see it at all.
  • It walks toward a spot within 2 m of you if you’re in its room; toward a spot within 2 m of itself if the nearest player isn’t in its room, and toward its ghost room if no one is in the investigation area.
  • The Goryo can’t be seen with the naked eye, only through a Video Camera. It also only enters D.O.T.S if it’s in its ghost room and no one is in that room.

What isn’t evidence

  • Your freezing breath lit up by the green light.
  • Incense smoke, which also reflects the dots.

Tips

  • Turn off the room light and watch through a Video Camera with night vision, directly or from the computer in the truck: the silhouette stands out much more, and you can watch for Ghost Orbs at the same time.
  • If the room is small, put the projector in the next room, pointing in: it’s easier to see. Tier II and III can be stuck to the ceiling on some maps.
  • Two projectors keep the silhouette visible longer; two Tier III ones facing each other fill a whole room. But if the fields overlap, photos can come out blank: space them out or turn one off.
  • The green light can hide prints: remove the projector when you look for Ultraviolet.

Trivia

  • D.O.T.S stands for “Detector Of The Supernatural.”
  • It’s inspired by the Xbox Kinect scene in the movie Paranormal Activity 4.
