StrengthA Raiju can siphon power from nearby electrical devices, making it move faster.
WeaknessRaiju are constantly disrupting electronic equipment when attacking, making it easier to track.
How it hunts
Hunt sanity threshold
- Normal: 50%
- Near active electronic equipment: 65%
Standard: 50% average sanity.
Speed
Near active equipment on the same floor (6 / 8 / 10 m depending on map size): a fixed 2.5 m/s. Otherwise, standard.
Standard: 1.7 m/s; speeds up with line of sight to 2.8 m/s over 13 s.
All its footsteps- Only equipment you bring from the truck counts (held, placed or dropped). House lights, the fuse box, global chat and equipment stored in your inventory don’t count (except Flashlights that are on).
- It interferes with electronics at 15 m (10 m for other ghosts), and the heartbeat is heard at 15 m.
Speeds up near electronics
If it passes near an active electronic device on its floor, it runs at a fixed 2.5 m/s even without seeing you. What counts as “near” depends on the map size. With electronics nearby it also hunts earlier: from 65% sanity.
Equipment in your inventory, dropped cameras and the building’s own devices (lights, fuse box, CCTV) do not count.
How it behaves
How to test it
Electric bait
StrongHow: Turn off all nearby equipment, leave one item on next to your hiding spot and listen during the hunt.
Result: If its footsteps suddenly speed up as it gets close to the equipment, it’s a Raiju.
Long-range interference
HintHow: Notice how far away your equipment starts to malfunction.
Result: It malfunctions from about 15 m away.

How to survive
- Remove or turn off any equipment you’re not using in its favorite room.
- When the hunt starts, don’t drop active equipment behind you: turn it off or switch to another item.

Mechanics
These don’t count toward its ability: global chat, cameras thrown on the floor, or sensors and D.O.T.S Projectors that are thrown or held (except a Tier I D.O.T.S that’s turned on). Neither do the house lights.
Folklore
In Japanese mythology, the raijū (“thunder beast”) is a dog-like creature wrapped in lightning that comes down to earth during thunderstorms.

Activity
When it manifests during a ghost event or a hunt, it interferes with electronics up to 15 m away on the same floor (the usual range is 10 m). That includes global chat.
Hunt
If there’s at least one piece of active electronic equipment nearby on the same floor (even if it’s outside the investigation area):
- its hunt threshold rises to 65%,
- and during the hunt it moves at a fixed speed of 2.5 m/s.
The distance that counts as “nearby” depends on the map:
| Map | Distance |
|---|---|
| Small | 6 m |
| Medium | 8 m |
| Large | 10 m |
With no electronics nearby, its threshold is the standard one (50%) and it moves at normal speed, with one catch: if it has line of sight on you while it’s near electronics, the line-of-sight speed-up builds up “in the background” and is applied once it moves away from them.
Almost all electronic equipment counts, whether it’s placed, held or dropped on the floor. These don’t count:
- global chat;
- Video Cameras and Photo Cameras thrown on the floor;
- Motion Sensors, Sound Sensors and D.O.T.S Projectors that are thrown or held (the Tier I D.O.T.S also has to be turned off);
- anything in your inventory (except Flashlights that are on);
- any electronics you didn’t bring from the truck (building lights, fuse box, CCTV cameras, fans, etc.).
Other details
The heartbeat can be heard within 15 m of the Raiju, instead of 10 m.
Strategy
- To avoid early hunts, turn off or remove from its favorite room any electronic equipment you don’t need; that way it can’t use it to speed up either. Leaving electronics lying around makes it very dangerous.
- Many players drop the electronic item they’re holding when a hunt starts so they don’t attract the ghost. With the Raiju, don’t do it: you’re leaving it a trail of electronics to speed up with. Instead, switch to a non-electronic item or turn off the one you’re holding.
How to identify it
- Watch its speed during the hunt, especially on small maps, with active electronics nearby. If it speeds up suddenly and significantly while roaming (not chasing anyone), it’s most likely a Raiju.
- Don’t confuse it with the Hantu, which speeds up when it moves from a warm room to a cold one. They only share Ghost Orbs, so any other evidence tells them apart.
- Safe test: turn off all nearby electronics, leave one turned on in your hiding spot and, during the hunt, listen for its footsteps suddenly speeding up as it gets close.
Trivia
In Japanese mythology, raijū (雷獣, “thunder beasts”) are divine creatures usually depicted as a dog-like animal surrounded by lightning. They were believed to live in the sky and descend to earth riding a lightning bolt during thunderstorms to wreak havoc, so in ancient Japan lightning strikes were seen as their passage or as divine punishment. In the game they don’t take animal form: they use the regular ghost models.
